As the Director of Construction, your responsibilities will include:
- Establish construction goals that support the company growth strategy
- Work in the field directing the team including project management, site superintendents, the safety team, and equipment
- Coordinate and prioritize various trades, labour, and equipment across multiple projects
- Be responsible for end-to-end project management from point of building permit through completion of construction and occupancy
- Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate construction projects according to schedule, specifications and budget
- Ensure that subcontractors and suppliers are meeting construction milestones and are in line with established schedules and contracts
- Work with planning, engineering, and management teams to review engineering packages throughout the construction lifecycle and make recommendations to design team
- Oversee the work of project managers and site leadership to ensure project execution efficiency and compliance with safety-assurance plans (including environmental and safety obligations and guidelines), and ensure all work is performed in accordance with proposed construction plans, specifications, quality controls, and timelines
- Hire and supervise the activities of multiple subcontractors and subordinate staff at any given time
- Conduct problem analysis that anticipates and removes barriers to completion and mitigates risk to completion or quality
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives, best practices in project management and construction techniques
- Report on progress, performance and metrics to the President
Qualifications:
- Must have a minimum 5 years senior construction field management experience with responsibility overseeing the construction of complex, large-budget projects
- Bachelor of Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business or related fields
- Must have a thorough understanding of steel-reinforced concrete hi-rise construction, and experience overseeing all disciplines and trades, and intimate knowledge of O.B.C., O.H.S.A. and W.S.I.B regulations
- Big-picture, strategic thinker comfortable working at a detailed level with a high degree of accuracy and quality
- Superb written and verbal communication skills, professional manner and computer literacy
